A gasket can be dispensed onto any conductive painted, plated, or metallic
surface of an electronics enclosure to protect it against internally and
externally radiated interference.
A Xyshield® gasket typically makes electrical contact between the conductive
surface of the enclosure and the ground-plane on the PCB, thereby containing
the EMI within the shielded area. Many enclosures are compartmentalised
to prevent cross-talk between components within the unit; intricate gasket
paths can be laid to overcome this phenomenon.
Shield cans are metal or metallised covers that are used to shield noisy
components from their sensitive neighbours. In the past these would have
been soldered directly onto a PCB. A Xyshield® gasket dispensed onto the
base of the can provides a low impedance contact between the can and the
PCB track. This makes it reusable, enabling removal for maintenance and
